Hi, have a 125L tank that has whitespot. It also has 4 panda cories in it along with platies and cardinal tetras.

I have just got some protozin to treat the whitespot but before I put it in - do I need to halve the dose because of the cories?

Try full dose and if they act weird dilute it down with a water change.
Should be ok if there plenty of aeration in the tank as it tough on the bottom with high temp and med.

Sorry - just thought of another question - should I be doing water changes during the treatment? I guess not but would like to be sure.

Many thanks
jen

No.
But if you do have to preform a water change all you do is add the correct amount of med back to the water removed.
Good luck.

Posts crossed!

Many thanks Wilder - I hoped you would see this!

Is it ok to increase temp slightly with the pandas in there? I know they don't like it too warm.

The cardinals started showing the whitespot this morning, 1 of the platies has been flicking since yesterday (stupid me didn't connect!).

Yes turn temp up but must have plenty of aeration as it going to be tough for the corys on the bottom.

Will turn temp up.

Re the aeration at the top - I don't have an airline so is it ok that the filter outlet is pointed directly at the surface (it is anyway).

Thanks again Wilder - if ever you're down this way... but you must be owed a bottle or two right around the world!

Thanks make that a crate of wine.
Can you buy an airpump and airstone to increase aeration, as I wouldn't higher temp till you have alot of aeration in the tank.
If you havent added the med yet only half dose till you can get the airpump, then add full dose once you bought one.

You will need a gang valve, tubing, and a back flow valve, the gang valve lets you turn the flow up and down.

The pump and airstone will be worth its money as in the hot weather you need more aeration when temp goes up.

Hi again,

Thanks for the info & links - got an airpump & stone :good:

I put the last treatment in last night (6th day) and was just wondering how long I should leave it until I do a water change? (Doesn't mention it on the bottle.)

BTW, is this treatment harsh at all? The whitespot was mainly on the cardinals and seemed to drop off pretty quick but then lost 2 of them. Panda cories and platies looking fine, even with the temp increase.

Many thanks!

Best to treat another week once spots have gone.
Good luck.
If you preform a water change just add the med back to the water removed.

OK will def do another course of meds. One last thing (!) - Med instructions say dose on 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 6th days so guessing leave for a day (or 2?) to allow a gap then restart? Or start next course tonight?

Sorry for being dippy!

Wilder - you're a total star, I'd deliver the crate now if I lived closer!

Re start but don't add day 6 just do do the three days.
Good luck.
Do a water change tonight and start again.
