To follow on from Andywg's recent thread, I went off to Wales at the weekend to dive Trefor Pier again and got a few pics and vids for you just to show some of the delights that can be had in the UK waters. Granted it's not as colourful as the Red Sea, but there is life even under a small disused pier in Wales.

There were loads of orange pipefish, but I couldn't get a decent pic of them, so not to be outsmarted by a tube, I video'd one :smug:

Neither did I until I got in, there's loads that I just haven't managed to get pictures of.

Not sure what it is, not hit the ID books yet, but my guess was Sole, but you might be right.

My camera is Olympus Camedia C350, but I flooded it this morning when it was being rinsed in the bucket :-( I'm waiting for it to dry out and hoping it'll work again. I forgot to set the white balance on these pics too.

Yes I was, I've only had it a couple of weeks, been diving in a semidry all winter.

Good pics Arf, especially the scorp. I had a slightly easier time this weekend in my father in law's pond for an hour and a half taking pics of his koi.

Finally got my twins in the pool last Friday and practised some shut down drills. Now I just need to get in the water and dive them and I'll be pretty much all set for the Farnes.

How do you find the drysuit? I found the best thing was not so much in the water as when you get out.

If I'm being honest, I'm not sold yet.

I was OK for around 40 mins at 4C in a semidry this winter, but the drysuit arrived at the beginning of May, just in time for the heatwave. Combine the ds with Fourth Element Xerotherm Arctics and a not inconsiderable layer of bioprene and it's made for lots of sweating on the surface and it's no warmer underwater, in fact if anything it's cooler.

I'm sure I'll feel the real benefit when it's cold on the surface on a boat between dives, but once the water gets upto 15C I think I'm going back to the semidry without the jacket.

On the plus side, I've ditched about 1.5kg of lead and my trim and bouyancy are considerably better. I am now hovering better, feet up and body flat in the skydiver position so kicking less crap up off the bottom.

Good luck with the twins, they're not for me and as yet I can't see a time when they would be, with my lack of interest in rust!

Here's a pic of a dive god ;) In his £4 decathlon mask as he left his proper mask at home.

Rather than start another thread, here are a couple of pics/video from my weekend trip to Capernwray which is another flooded quarry used for training.

Awesome, perch and brown trout!

Does the quarry have any rivers or such going into it? Or is it artificially stocked with the trout?

No rivers as such, I would guess they were introduced many years ago. You can buy bags of fish food to feed them on dives hence they hang out near the entrance and aren't scared of divers and some are big and fat  I don't do that in case the tamptation to catch and BBQ one gets too great

There are some big sturgeon in there too, but I've not seen them, they tend to hang out where the divers (like me!) don't go too often, though I have seen them in Blue Lagoon.

Gotta get that certificate.
Bloody amazing pics/vids Arfie, cant wait until I get to grips with the course.
Just holding back until my youngun comes to the correct minimum age and we'll both do it together (PADI)
Thanks for sharing and providing that extra spark
