Hello, after finally clearing my ich problem up without lsoing any fish, 2 more problems arose. One of my female platys has this weird white patch (kinda yellow, but that could just be her coloring) right where her tailfin starts. Anyone know what this is?

Also, another female platy of mine looks like her scales (just a few of them) are being like torn off kinda. I dont think this is bropsy, because she can swim perfectly, and I feed them peas at leas 3 times a week, sometimes more. Any clue? So far, I tihnk it's aggression from the male platy because shes pregnant, but I never see him peck at any of the platys ever. Could it be something else?

I'm working on pics, but these fish are quick.

does it look like any of these pictures?

No, nothing like that at all. Sorry, I'm still working on pics.

The second platy I mentioned, her scales arent red or inflammed, just look torn up a bit. I'm leaning towards aggression from the male platy, but I'll get some pics up and see what you guys think.

The fish with the funny scales does has dropsy by the sounds of it. Dropsy is NOT caused by bloating necessarily and peas are used to avoid constipation. More often than not, dropsy is the result of an internal bacterial infection. Incidentaly, your other sick platy sounds like it has columnaris flexibacter or aeromonas. these are bacterial infections (though often reffered to as 'fungal') and that is what those 2 pictures posted before depict. It's just that you're platy won't have gotten to such a severe state yet.

The first thing to do is lower the temp to below 76 deg F. You mentioned you were treating for ich. One reccomended treatment for ich is to raise temp. - this also happens to be a trigger for columnaris unfortunately.

Then I would suggest isolating the sick fish and treating both with an antibiotic. This may or may not help the fish with columnaris but it'll kill any aeromonas that typicaly attacks at the same time. If the columnaris does not show improvement, you'll need to treat with an anti fungus/finrot med. as well. What country do you live in? (so appropriate meds. can be suggested). Adding salt, once you isolate, would also be of use.

I live in the US. I dont think I can lower my temp yet though, because the ich has completely been gone just today, so I was going to leave it for another 2 days. Is colmunarius contagius at all? Oh and isolation isn't really possible :( I have this community tank, and the fry tank, which is inhabited, so I have no where to put them. I do have scaless fish too, so I can't treat with salt. And I dont know how the shrimp will react to the meds.

EDIT - I read that this is contagious. What can I do if I can't quarentine fish? Oh, and about the other fish, when I look at her from above, she doesn't look like a pinecone like dropsy. SO could it be something else, or are you sure it's dropsy?

Well, I cant start treating today, cuz it's 10:15 pm where I live. I need to start treating tomorrow then. Will my corys and shrimp be ok with the meds?

For tonight, begin lowering the temperature. Two degreese F per day (1 degree C).

Also, sometimes open sores can be caused by columnaris. SO it could be one disease.

Also forgot to add, the pix i posted before show an extreme case of the open wound. Salt dips can also be helpful.

Yea I lowered my temperture already. My LFS said that this was lymphus or something like that. He said it was caused by open sores too. Like if the fish hit one of my rocks or something. I can't use salt though cause I have scaless fish.

Do you know if my shrimp will be ok with the meds (as well as my corys).

Some columnaris meds. contain malachite green, I believe. That is harmful to shrimp and, as far as I know, cories don't appreciate it much either (many people half-dose for them - I have never had to). However, most antibiotics should be safe for your shrimp and are fine for the cories. The LFS worker was reffering to lymphocystis. That's unlikely to be what your fish has and it doesn't look like it in those pics either.

Yea, I know that now thanks to you guys. I woke up this morning, and it seemed to spread through her body, but no other fish is yet to get it. I'm getting some meds now, I'll see what the LFS has.

OK< and I got these meds made my Mardel. Am I allowed to keep my lights on with these meds? I hear some meds require no lighting.
