I posted about my tank trying to cycle again. In this same tank, I have a couple of dalmations. One of them is now not swimming. His fins are kinda clamped up. What do I do?????

Help?

He wiggles a bit.....................even all the way to the other end of the tank. Then I see him on a plant and think he is dead. Next thing I know he is wiggling again. His fins are clamped together. Can I help him?

it will be because of bad water conditions.Do a water change and see if this helps.why is it starting to cycle again(i didnt see the post)

ok i read the topic

i would take the coris out and put them in the seperate tank, because they are very sensitive.
Danios and mollies are hardier so may be able to last.I cycled with molies when i didnt know better and they lived.do a water change and see if this helps.

I hate when people cycle with fish. The fishless method is so much eiser and fast to I might add..If I was you I would do a 15 percent water change daily until your cycle completes. This will prolong your cycle but it will save you fish..

yeah i hate it too!
when i started i didnt know the first thing about fish never mind cycling!

Before commenting on doing a cycle with fish, you should read the previous post. She had a tank that had been running for 4 months. It had already cycled! In that case, I think we would all have fish in it. She had a power outtage that killed the nitrates in the tank.

Trisha, you should do water changes to keep the ammonia and nitrites down. Stay on top of testing these and you should be ok. The fish that is already stressed out may not make it. I hate to hear about cases like this........seems like you do everything you can and nature or the power company deals you a bad hand. Good luck!

Thanks, playful. I would never cycle with fish. Right now, I'm screwed. My gouramis are too big to put into my 10 gallon with my mollies. The dalmation is dying. He isn't wiggling around too much. I did another partial water change and will add more bio-spira tonight.

That's the best thing you can do, keep an eye on the water stats and do small water changes.
I have never cycled without fish. In 12 years only once did I have any problems and that was starting out with a completely stocked tank. When you start out slow with one or two fish in a large tank, you can successfully cycle without a lot of stress on the fish. It's when you overload right off the bat. However, that's really off topic and I won't hijack your thread. LOL

Not sure how much help the bio spira will be as I've never used it. How is your other tank doing? Anyway you can pull a bit of filter media from it? That can help speed up the cycle.

Bio-Spira is extremely helpful as long as it has been refrigerated at the store. and refrigerated at your house.

Update..............Did a large water change, but used distilled water to refill. Added the appropriate amount of bio-spira. All stats are back to where they should be. The water is actually not as hard now as it was. Fish are all happy. Will check it again tomorrow, and then go to the lfs to buy a few gouramis to replace thoses that didn't make it.

Thanks for the help!!

I'd wait a few days to ensure everything really has settled before buying any more fish.
Glad everything has settles...I live in a school and a few years back we had a series of powercuts that lasted 48 hours!! It was a nightmare...I hated it. Luckily all of my fish survived due to doing 50% water changes twice daily and using a friend who loved near by to boil kettles for me os I could get the temperature of the water right by adding a bit of boiling water to normal tap water and then taking it's temperature. I was very clse to buying a generator at one stage...or I was going to jump on a bike and try the cartoon method of making electricity!!

My lfs informed me that they carry BATTERY POWERED FILTERS. May be worth buying one "just in case".
