Is it just me or are fish more expensive in the UK? I've looked on quite a few sites and a lot of fish from the UK are more pricy than over here, sometimes more than triple. Are there fewer stores, or are the fish harder to catch, or is it just that they charge a lot?

in genral everything in the UK is overpriced compared to the USA.

Interesting. Even so, the fish keeping hobby seems more popular in the UK when you do it in proportions.

Taxes... in the UK we're taxed to pay for NHS etc etc. Personal and business taxes are higher, and businesses need to charge more to cover the cost. Also, our VAT (sales tax) is on more things and at a higher rate.
Also, fish are bred in (eg) Florida on large-scale, where heating costs etc are always going to be lower. Also, less transport cost.

And generally wages in the UK are higher than the US, therefore the cost of living rises too; not to mention the large abundance of imported goods, rather than a large country like the US which can home produce a lot more.

Just look at how many suitcased brits going to the US take in comparison to those returning.

Either that or thier outbound case looks a little fuller on the return flight..

A lot of things are pound for dollar.. so things that cost $19.99 in the US cost £19.99 in the UK :(

thats just my 2 penneth anyway.. ( see .. even thats more expensive)

As far as fish goes, it's probably at least a little due to shipping. It's much more difficult to get Asian fish to the UK, and African fish are about equal to UK & US. Just a thought.
