I posted the day before yesterday when I lost my bristlenose and a cory and tested to find an ammonia spike. I think my tank has uncycled as I have changed some fish and moved it all around lately, replacing all the ornaments. I came home today have have lost 4 more fish and the rest don't look good, including my 2 lovely big angels that I have had since I started the tank. I have no idea what to do except continue daily water changes. I just finished one, but the ammonia is higher than yeaterday! :-( :-( :-( Now i'm into panic mode as think i'm going to lose all my beautiful fish

Sorry to hear this, you have another tank there is it cycled as you could take some filter media out of there and place in the other tank.

Yeah, i'll try that, would doing a near as poss 100% water change do anything? I just can't understand what has caused such a hugh spike. Is lava rock the problem?

take it out for now the rock just to see if anything changes, don't do a large water change the cycle will just take for ever, taking some sponges from the other tank is your best option, good luck.

The rock probably messed up your water. Just keep doing frequent changes. Not much else you can do I'm afrad. Good luck

If the ammonia is really high, to keep it from killing anymore of your fish you could add some AmmoLock. It basically makes the ammonia safe for the fish. It is still turned into nitrite so your tank will still cycle. It takes about 7 days for it to stop working, so test again around the 5th day and then again around the 7th day, and it should show the ammonia level dropping then. Until that point though, the ammonia will still technically be there so it will show up on tests. The AmmoLock just makes it safe. Hope this helps save some fish... I know it did mine.

Can you possibly have the LFS hold them for you while you cycle your tank? It will be really hard on their little systems if they have to endure being burned by ammonia. I wouldn't suggest using Ammo Lock because that will just delay the problem... the tank needs to cycle. Make sure that there is a lot of aeration for them, so that they can breath more easily. (The ammonia in the water will burn their gills and make it hard for them to breath.)

Thanks guys, I did another water change this morning and will go another tonight. I'm gonna test this morning and if the levels are still reasonably high I may move the fish if the lfs will take them. I feel so gulty

I have continued with the water changes and the ammonia is dropping. I also got some used filter media from another tank. I have now lost 1 bristlenose, 4 rams, 2 (about to be 3) corys and a male cockatoo :-(

Hi hun. :-( Every time you lose a fish I feel like I've lost one too :( Are the angels looking any better?

The angels are ok at the mo, as well as the rainbows and the ancient pearl. It seems like the middle to top swimmers are ok. The clown loach also seem fine, must be indestructable. I have the last cory in the little breeding separation box, but he's not looking too good. Just did an ammonia test, which was quite low, but still there. Fingers crossed! :/
