Right i seem to be having a problem with my community tank and its bewildering and i can work out why.
I went away for a week 3 weeks ago and came back and had lost a honey gourami 2 mollies a bumble bee gobie a couple of neons and an otto but could only find one body of the mollie. So i striped the tank stired the water checked in the filter no bodies so assumed they were eaten all tests showed clear all was well for 2 weeks. Then the other day a cory died so i tested the water it was fine then a ram looked like it was on the way out so did a test my ammonia was at .25 didnt know why so i perforem a 30% water change and checked the tank again ad stired the sand sadly the ram died but alot of my fish are on the bottom and today i have lost a platy and a molly and alot of the other are just on the sand. They show no signs of disease no mark im bewildered all tests are fine ammonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrate 10 the tank has been set up over 6 months and no fish have been introduced for over a month if not 2 so anyone got any ideas?????

Sounds like a bacterial infection if they are on the bottom and are listless, have they darkened in colour, plus when you lose alot of fish with know systoms usually a bacterial infection.

No 9 Anti Internal Bacteria

Internal systemic bacterial infections (Pseudomonas, Aeromonas, Vibrio bacteria sp.) are a common cause of death in aquarium fish, previously only treatable with veterinry prescribed antibiotics.

Anti Internal Bacteria is a breakthrough product, on general sale, which halts the progress of bacterial problems and prevents it spreading.

Diagnosing Internal Bacteria

1 Swollen eyes.

2 Open sores.

3 Abdominal swelling.

4 Hollow abdomen.

5 Reddening/Bloodstreaks under the skin surface.

6 Gills pale and eroded.

7 Loss of appetite, listlessness and a darkening of colour.

8 Sudden unexplained deaths.

Yeah i recon its a bactierial infection would melafix deal with that?On closer inspections i have noticed some white fluff looking stuff on my rainbows eye and nose and bits on there fins.

If it's fluffy looking it columnaris, turn temp down two degrees, increase aeration alot, as you will need two meds, anti internal bacteria med by interpet, plus half dose anti fungus and finrot med by interpet, good luck.

well its looks like im to late with the medication nearly all my fish has died i have caught it to late fins only atrted to look damaged and fluff only appeared last night and now its every where nearly all my fish have been wiped out. So if i loose them all will the disease still be in the water what should i do to get rid of it with no fish in there?

a friend of mine has had the same problem she lost all of hers and she decided to start again, she got new gravel and boiled her rock etc. Added fresh water and left it empty for a month or so now she says it fine and looks better than b4

This sounds like what is happening in my tank, its heartbreaking isn't it? I dont really want to go home tonight, I think I'll be left with no fish tonight.

When you say strip it down do you mean to bin everything thats inside it? i.e all substrate decoration filter media or what would be best before i recycle and re-stock.

You will have to completely start again, sterlise the gravel in boiling water, if plastic plants, bleach and rinse well, and let them dry out for a few days, sterlise ornaments, clean tank once eptied with salt and hot water rinse well and let it dry out for aday.
Run filter in a bucket of hot salty water, then rinse it through a couple of time in clean water, let dry out for a few days.
Sponges could sterlise them in the mircowave in water a few times.
