OK, so it was a daft thing to do, but the label attached to the wood said "Just rinse and add to your tank" so I believed it!

Now it's been leaching out tannins into my water for 3 days and I can't see my fish (who don't seem the slightest bit bothered). Since this is a tank I "seeded" from a previous, smaller tank, I don't want to do too much to disturb it but I did do a 10% w/c yesterday. Doesn't seem to have made much difference, however.

Should I take the wood out of the tank (problem because it won't give my fish enough hiding places and my new betta is very nervous) or will this problem resolve itself if I do small, frequent water changes? Any better ideas?

P.S. No one's answered my question about the tufa rock yet either. Any takers?

Try putting some carbon in the filter and keep doing small water changes, should remove some of the colour.I personally like the colour the wood gives off, looks more natural but for those who dont like it it is best to soak the wood in a bucket for at least a week, changing the water everyday before adding it to the tank.

I like the look of "leached" water, too. But the solutions for your problems have been answered above, also, does anybody think baking the wood helps?
