Get yourself a pair of 12" blue cold cathodes for about £3 from ebuyer, get an adapter to wire them to for about £5 off fleabay, then a timer for about a fiver and you've got your own moonlights :good:

There's a great thread telling you how to do them in the DIY section and if I can do it really, anyone can

Just don't use sticky pads to mount them as they will melt and fall in.

Also are you wanting a bright blue moonlight or more subdued? The 12" cold cathodes only provide a subtle moonlight effect in a deeper tank such as the 350 which is fine for me. I will post pics of mine tonight so you can see the effect on a 350.

Hope I'm not 'hi-jacking' this thread but are there any moonlights for a small aqua one 320 available anywhere?
What are your dimensions? I am sure 2 12" cold cathodes would be fine, if they are too bright and you have a multi voltage adaptor you can turn the voltage down to maybe 6 volts.

Anyone any tips on securing the lights to the hood, I used sticky pads for a while but one light fell in the tank so I removed them, I am contemplating super glueing them.

Are these ones on ebay trustworthy.. and where do you stand if there was an issue as it drops into your tank and frys the fish or starts a fire. Perhaps they weren't as waterproof as expected...

Im just a worrier.

Hi Crux just measured the lid and its just slightly under 12" so they wouldn't fit which is a shame cos I've got a pair of moonlights on an unused 96l tank.

Hi Squid, When I first used moonlights I just stuck them on with the sticky pads and one fell in the water, I turned them off quickly and they still worked and didn't 'fry' the fish or anything. I got mine off ebay and they came quickly, easy to fit (if you use the proper fitments that come with them and not sticky pads) and they look fantastic!!

There are 10cm Cold Cathode tubes here Worth a look.

Mine came with sticky pads off ebay. The tubes actually came broken but the ebay seller replaced them free of charge. The sticky pads failed so I am contemplating the use of super glue.
