Moon Lights

I had them from Razor-opto  and a year down the line 3 of the LEDs are bust, 2 of them went within the first 3 months. You can't (well I can't) replace the individual LEDs, so I'm swapping over to the cold cathode ones, at least I can replace them when they pop.

They look pretty good when on, but not as spread out as the cathodes, you can see 6 defined spots of blue with these ones. I wouldn't recommend them though, purely on the basis then when they go pop, they are useless.

u should of emailed him.

one of mine went and he replaced it in a couple of days.

anyone got these? are they any good?

lights

The LFS has LED light thingys that go under water, look more space like in design. I think they were under $20. Also there are under water tiny 1 inch pond lights. You could hide them under something, although they have no on/off switch.

:good: WE bought ours from Ebay in the States he makes them to order only cost £10 for 5 LEDs. The fish acted so differant when the moon light is put on , they all go to the top of tank and seem to bask in the light well cool to watch.

I bought from Razor-opto too. it must be 9 months since I did, and they are all fine (and some of the LEDs spend as much time submerged as not). Luck of the draw I guess.

They are good, but you need to sit in the darkened room for some time (half an hour) before your eyes get accustomed to the low light levels and you can get the most out of them.

hi
i bought ours from razor opto on uk ebay too. had them for at least a year & i love them. theyre not the 'spot' type but like mini striplights (is that cold cathode??? sorry not good with techy stuff) theyve also got a plug/transformer thing that allows you to alter the brightness. they look great. id bought similar type of other people & found they didnt last the plug seemed to burn out quickly. but that may have been that i used to turn them off with the switch provided not turn them off at the power switch which is what i do now, well the timer does ares are on a timer plug comes on 1/2 hr before lights out & goes off about 2 hrs later.

i love watching our fish in the moonlights. ive posted a pic but it doesnt really do the lights justice but will give you the idea. :D

I would add that I've no complaint with razor-opto, he/she was very helpful and made them to measure for me

After 3 months I wouldn't expect to get a replacement and I know with things like LED's it's luck of the draw, the fact is I don't think they look as good as the cathodes or "strips" like millym has which provide a more natural spread of light and they are sooooooo easy to make yourself.

Here's a pic of my LED's when they were first fitted to the new tank:

They aren't that bright, the camera compensated for low light in the room, but you can see the spotlight effect they cause. They were on the brightest setting though and they are now on a lower setting.

thanks for all replys- so they look good but there is a chance of the leds breaking-which is a hassle to get more probley will give the cathode ones a try. both pics of the tanks look great btw-gotta love the blue lights B)

I love our moon lights. I have a string of 6 that sit between the hood and the light. Usually when I turn on the regular light half the fish and the frog go into hiding but with the moon light you can see them swimming around with out bothering them. Really neat when all of the lights in the room are out.

I used to have the cold cathodes and they looked really good untill one dropped into the water and broke, i think the cahtodes look more natural - just personal opinion tho.
