I have tried cathode tubes but they keep failing for some reason, even when I've sealed them in tubes.

I've tried LED's but they are too spot lighty, no spread.

So after something else now.

Are there any compact T5 units?

Get a blue moon T8 bulb and unit, then attach a reflector upside down so its facing the hood :good:

I got a Blue Moon T5 light on a Tank but only because I got chance of getting it cheap. Those Cold cathode tubes are just as good if not better for moonligting. Plus with the cathodes you can dim them unlike the T-5's. can send you a pic if you want.

Whilst on the topic, you seen the cathodes on www.dabs.com, they seem to be the ones for sale on ebay just cheaper

Like i've put I had no luck with cathodes.

I've bought 2 lots from different places and they just all stop working/flash lots then go out.

I assumed it was cause they got wet or something, so thats why I sealed some in an extra tube. They failed still and there was NO water in the extra tube.

Hence wanting to get something else.

I've seen some T5 compact lights in blue, but its actinic, which isnt good for tropical tanks?
