hi all,

just found out last night that one of my mommy mollies has fungus infection on its side.
any suggestion on the medication?
shall i quarantine her?

:thanks:

Was there salt in the tank? Reason I ask: http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=137887

As for quarantining, if it is fungus, I would suggest moving and treating, though columnaris/ bacterial I would to the whole tank.

i got corries and loaches in the tank so i do not like the idea of adding salt, although, i have 500grams of the stuff for my quaratine tank.
any suggested brand for medication?
:thanks:

i've done some research and an 'expert' suggested a quarantine and interpet's anti-fungus & finrot or waterlife's myxazin.

will do these when i get home tonight.
:good:

I take it you aren't in the U.S., then. :p I would have suggested maracyn, though that might also be available elsewhere.

i am in the UK and i just bought waterlife's myxazin.
5 day treatment course, they suggested.

the bottle recommends that i remove zeolites on my filter.
i have two filters and only one with zeolites (internal filter one).
if i turn off the internal filter with zeolites, will this do?
or do i have to completely move out the internal filter from the tank?

Is the zeolite built in? If not, remove the cartridge, but keep the filter running so the tank is still aerated and the water circulated. If not, the non-zeolite filter alone should be ok.

Also, are you medicating the whole tank? I suppose it would be a better idea than just the one molly, JIC.

i have changed my mind on using a 20L quarantine tank.
so i will put the medication on the 180L tank.

the zeolite is not built in.
i will just remove the zeolites and keep the filters running as you suggested.

hi
i know your now going to treat the whole tank but if you have a prob in the future ive found that our black mollie mum who had fungus a while ago responded well ( fungus went completely & no further signs) to being moved into a little tank with aquarium salt for a few days. ( we cant use salt in our main tank either cos of loaches & corys) she was also is very easy to catch - just swam into a jug i held near her.
good luck

hi there,
my concern are the little ones who might have caught the bacteria/disease already.
it is difficult to detect on the little ones especially if they are always hiding.
i will put the medication on the bigger tank and wait for the suggested 5 days to lapse and if the situation does not improve, i will put the mommy molly in the 20L tank with salt and stuff.
i have an extra small filter, aerator, and heater so this will not be a problem.
thanks for the advice.

by the way,
have you had any problems with the loaches and amanos together?
:friends:

hi
no we've had both loaches(yoyos) & amanos together for over 3 years the loaches ( or any of our fish) never bother them. our tank is heavily planted so theres lots of shrimp hidey holes but even when the shrimps are out & about ive never seen a loach even look at them. in fact i have seen on quite a few occasions a shrimp march right up & pinch a bit of catfish tablet right out from under a loaches nose, the shrimp rolling the tablet away or swimming with it to a quiet corner to enjoy leaving a rather baffled looking loach wondering where its snack has gone!!!
we used to have 5 amanos but have lost 3 recently they appeared to die from 'natural' causes & i cant imagine their lifespan being much more than 3 years which is how long we have had them for. we've got some littlies in our baby tank that we will put in our big tank when they grow theyre still about the size of a tiger barb snack at the moment .
