Tbh it looks more like some kind of weird patchy fungal infection than ich. Ich presents with lots of fairly regular white dots that look like the fish is covered in tiny salt grains. The specks on your fish lookmore fuzzy/cottony and are very irregular in size and shape, which could point to a fungus, or perhaps slime disease. What are the water parametres?

I honestly don't know what they were before I just got the fish from someone else hoping I could help it because they didnt care and the fish is in a small temporary tank for the time being while I set up the new one. I'm getting the water ready and will check temp and PH once it's had more time to set up. I'm very new to keeping fish so I hope I'm doing this correctly.

I wouldn't be shocked if it were a different kind of fungal infection. The tank I got it from before smelled almost like mushrooms and it was disgusting. Old food all over the filter was almost totally clogged I can't even begin to describe.

I need clear pictures of the fish, but would say it is excess mucous caused by poor water quality or something in the water that is irritating the fish.

Test the tank water for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH and GH.

Wipe the inside of the glass down with a clean fish sponge.

Do a 75% water change and gravel clean the substrate every day for a week. The water changes and gravel cleaning will reduce the number of disease organisms in the water and provide a cleaner environment for the fish to recover in.
Make sure any new water is free of chlorine/ chloramine before it is added to the tank.

Clean the filter if it hasn't been done in the last 2 weeks. However, if the filter is less than 6 weeks old, do not clean it. Wash the filter materials/ media in a bucket of tank water and re-use them. Tip the bucket of dirty water on the garden/ lawn. Cleaning the filter means less gunk and cleaner water with fewer pathogens.

Increase surface turbulence/ aeration to maximise the dissolved oxygen in the water.
