Molly Wth Black Mark Please Help!

Hi All

I am sorry if this is the wrong section to post this but couldn't find a relevant section.

Basically i have noticed a black mark (not spot more of a dark mark) on one of my Molly fish's body near the tail end. Not sure what it is or why it has appeared if anybody can shed any light on this I would appreciate it as I am worried about the poor little thing. Although it seems to be swimming fine and happy in the tank.

any males in the tank? if so congrats, looks like a gravid spot meaning shes prego

she may have stored the sperm if you have no other males, this is my view, bring on the experts

Yes, she is pregnant. Look for some babies in the coming weeks. Congrats!

Hi Guys

Thanks for all your advice and expert information. I am glad that she is pregnant and not ill!! I have one male in the tank didn't realise this when I bought them as they were all mixed together.

What would you reccomend is the best way to make sure the fry survive?? I only have a 48 litre tank and a small house with no space for a larger tank. Any suggestions would be appreciated as i am new to fishkeeping and this is my first pregnant fish.

Has long as theres plenty of cover with plants etc,you will get some survive,or invest in a floating breeding trap that fits inside your tank,once your molly has dropped her fry you can raise them in there for a few weeks until they're bigger.
