Molly vs. Platy

I have a gold one....but I don't know if it's a platy or molly or maybe a female swordtail......

What's the easiest way to tell the difference?

well, its pretty hard. if u can take a pic and add it 2 this post we will be able 2 help u tell. i will try and look around the net and see if i can find u a pic of each.

where did u get it frm ? they sud have told u wot it was.

Thanks Caroline....I knew right after I posted the question that it was kind of silly without a picture...fact is I bought this fish so long ago I don't remember what it was...I bought it with 2 swordtails.

I will try to get a picture and post it, I was just hoping there might be some tell-tale sign that you could use to tell the difference.

I think Mollies get bigger slightly than platies. Mostly Mollies are black or speckled, although there are different colors. Most platies I have seen are various colors ranging from orange to white to blue to multi color. Most mollies I see are white, black and speckeld. I am sure there are other colors of mollies, but that is the most common I have noticed.
