Hi

My Molly is about 2 years old and is black. Over the last week white patches have formed on her. There are no other symtoms.

Its not fluffy like fungus. It as if shes turning white but with the fish keep picking at the white bits. No one else seems to have it.

Any ideas?

I going to post some pictures soon.

Size of tank in gallons or litres.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
She getting old for a livebearer.
The white patches where are they on the fish, does it look like bleaching beneath the skin.

Look like she has mouth fungus flexibactor columnaris, do her lips look white.
Any red tinging to the white patches.,

I would treat it as bacterial.
Can you isolate her for treatment.
Uk myxazin and pimafix for columnaris.
United states maracyn one and two.

I can't isolate her only got one tank.

I have been using melafix.

I dont have any of the product you mention.

Melafix is not good it only good on cuts and wounds.
You will have to treat the whole tank.

i have no. 8 interpet treatment - anti fungus and fin rot - any good. Two of my swords have fin rot - Hence why i was using melafix.

will no. 8 work? I have most of the interpet range.

It says that the anti finrot and fungus med is for columnaris but in my experience its no good.
You could also use anti internal bacteria med by interpet med.

I have just put in 8 interpet treatment - anti fungus and fin rot . see how it goes.

Ok good luck.

My molly died, but i am now worried about my other fish. Two or three of my swordtails are laying on the bottom gasping. I put the treatment in last sunday for the molly (see above) and i wanted to wait until this sunday to do a water change.

Its only the last day or so when the swords have been showing these symtoms.

Do you think its a reaction to the med?

Immediate water change and increase aeration in the tank.
Columnaris can affect the gills do they look sticky.
