So it was suggested that my molly had columnaris. She has had white cottony growths (just a few) for a while now and nothing I have done makes them go away completely. I just treated with a 7 day course of Pimafix and it helped her perk up (she was clamping) and she seems like a happy, healthy fish, except for a very small patch on her body near her dorsal fin. It did improve with the pimafix but did not go away completely. Any more ideas before I go another round with the Pimafix?

She is in the hospital tank right now so she has 5 gals of clean, stable water all to herself to get better. I just performed the 20% water change that they recommend after a course of treatment yesterday and was going to move her into the big tank but noticed she had just a trace still of whatever it is. The lady at the pet store tried to sell me a treatment for ich. It is most certainly not that. She did have that when I moved a school of tetras into her tank and was treated and recovered beautifully from that. This problem far preexisted the ich anyway.

Beats me. Thanks!

If you can - pop a picture up so we can have a look at the marks remaining.

Id certainly keep her in the hospital tank for now just incase she has anything that could be passed on. Not only could she infect other fish but in the hospital tank she can feed in peace and build up her strength. Try feeding some defrosted frozen or live foods. (daphnia or brine shrimp) just be sure to rinse them first. The foods will help her get stronger while she is feeling better so when you put the next dose of primafix in she is ready for it.

If you have seen a good responce with the Primafix then i would certainly give it a second course. If it looks like its on the mend then thats gotta be a good sign.

Thank you! She is such a lively fish with loads of personality!

It does not sound like cotton mouth. She is not sluggish or unhealthy acting in any way. The nearest I can figure is that it is columnaris. It seems to be the most likely, though, like I said, she only suffers from the white spots on her dorsal and near her tail. Like cottony fluffs.

Almost like this:

But not nearly as bad and large.

I will try to get a better picture of it as soon as I can find the charger for my camera in the anaconda's nest of chargers I have somehow accumulated....

Ok, so columnaris it is, and I am starting a dose of Maracyn in the morning after my new carbon filter cleans out the pimafix. Cross your fingers!

Thanks for the help everyone!

Good Luck.
