I just bought a female molly today and i think she is pregnant but i am not sure. She is white with black spots and i see no gravid spot but she is pretty fat. Is she pregnant or is it a disease. and if she is pregnant how can i tell, is it the same way to tell with platies and guppies?

If it is a dalmation mollie, it may be hard to look for a gravid spot. If she looks squareish on the bottom then she is pregnant and may give birth soon. It could be overeating also. I would wait to feed her for about 2 days and see if her size changes, if not then it would be safe to assume that she is pregnant.

Thank you, when i find out i will post it. :D Right now i have her in a fve gal just in case. Should the five gal have a heater? :/ right now the temp is in the 70's.
And another question where the molly is i have 3 other pregnant platies in the tank and just did a 25% water change and they all seem stressed out :( can you tell me if i should be worried about the mothers 2 be.

You can put a heater in the tank since they like it to be about 75-78 degrees. When you did the water change, was the water the same temp as the tank? That may stress them out. I wouldn't be overly concerned since water changes can stress out the fish. Give them adjustment time. Also, how long have you had the other two mothers to be?

I did the water change about 2 hrs. ago. I have had the other 3 mothers to be for a couple of monthes but they have been in the 5 gal for about 3 days.

i just fed all of the females in the 5 gal. and all 3 of my platies will eat a piece of flake food and spit it out right after they eat it. is this a sign that they will drop their fry soon? and the molly isn't even eating. could this be because she was just moved to a new tank today? :/

Now about 3 hrs. later all of the pregnant females in the 5 gal. seem to be even more stressed :-(. should i put something in the water? or put them back in the community tank?

Hi fantasy fish, I was not able to access my computer so I could not get your posts. I am wondering if your mollie had survived? I would put them back into the community tank, if you have not already done so. How big is your community? Maybe if it was bigger than 5 gal, they got stressed.

I'm just surprised that no one else answered to your problem. :-(

Well the molly died :-( i got to her too late after she died EARLY in the morning so the fry had died too.(guesse she was pregnant :# ) My communtiy tank in 10 gal. (working on getting 20 gal.) and i have put back all of the mothers to be in the community tank. i might move them back if the males are stressing them out too much though.

I'm sorry to hear about your mollie  If the males are stressing out your females, then you could just move the males. If females are stressed out, I think they can abort the pregnancy. I don't think the males should bother them too much. Good luck with your other mothers to be. :)
