A couple years ago I bought a pair of "Tattooed" fish. They had blue and pink stripes on them. They proceeded to overrun my tank at one point. When i bought them I was told that they were mollies. I'm not so sure now. I think they look more like platies. I don't know if it's common for either of these to have a very long top fin, but one of mine does. I believe it's a male by the way it will stand that fin up on end and swim around the others. Like a male trying to impress a female. He's also the biggest in the tank. If anyone could tell me what this is for sure, I would really appreciate it.

These are like the third or fourth generation from the ones who were tattooed. The originals died not too long after I got them. I have six left and they are all about one and a half inches long except the largest who is a good half inch bigger.

Looks like a sailfin molly to me... :good:

Aren't the top fin on sailfins attached to their tails though?
None of the other five have the long top fin and all are normaly proportioned

Defo a sailfin molly, only males have the large dorsal fin.

Yuppers - a sailfin molly - platinum. I have black and dalmation ones myself. I also have one sailfin platinum molly female that is pregnant. I am not sure if my male dalmation is the proud pappy or she was pregnant when I got her. Time will tell. How many do you have left?

Here is a picture of my male. I have a hard time getting him with his "sail" up.

As of right now I have six left. Possibly seven. I have a single fry that is still too little for me to be able to identify yet.

Within 4 days of getting our fish, we had 30 swordtails born. Whew. We are now awaiting the arrival of black dalmation sailfin molly and the silver (platinum) sailfin moll.

That is definitely a sailfin molly. I wish I coiuld find some. I do prefer the lyretails though. That guy you got there looks great! :good:
