Alright guys and girls before I start I say Molly lovers in the title as I know there are people that don't like Molly's And are very keen on Molly's like myself

I have like everyone with live bearers a constant fry population but I went for a different approach with my Mollys I bought 2 orange males 2 silver 1 Dalmatian and 1 peppered and all have sail fin.

I also bought a copper ( who's recently had 8 fry ( half black and copper colour) )and half orange/black female to get some different colours going in the Molly way of life in stead of the usual black, silver/white, Dalmatian, marbled, grey.

I do have these other coloured females in my tank ( plenty for ratio of 1m-3f) as I wanted to see what crazy coloured fry I could produce in my mad way of thinking as I like seeing different coloured fish.

Lately the only coloured fry I've been lucky to get as I hoped to get are orange with black spots on them
Black fry as expected ,grey with black
A few marbled
And loads of mixed coloured orange and black/ grey

To which I'm very happy about as I've sortve completed my goal on getting different coloured mollies.

I'm currently waiting on my half orange/black female to pop as she's getting quite large and has been looking big for last few days and I'm itching to see what colour they are an what crazy pattens they'll turn up in.

As I'm in no way of Being able to keep the whole lot I'm taking them to one of my lfs as they said they would defo have them

In total at the moment I have atleast 40-50 babies ranging from 4-5 weeks down to 2 days old.

My question is,

Is this some of the colours you would like to see in your lfs and mainly your tanks or is my efforts of trying to get some new colours all in vain??

Some people would like your speckled colours. Purists will hate them. The goal of most breeders is to breed a new colour, perfectly, all over, and when they breed together, they in turn will breed the same colour instead of reverting to the previous genetic colour. But you probably knew this.

Don't get me wrong I like mollies a lot hense why I have quite a lot of them

I've been to my various lfs and not seen and mixed colours which prompt me to try and breed different colours.

And don't get me wrong my boys in my tank don't seem to heve standards in a sense and they will try and mate with all the females regardless of their colours and just sticking to " their own colours " luckily enough for me it's what I was hoping for.

It's was just a general question to see if Molly lovers would love to see and have the chance to own varied coloured Molly's.

I love different colored mollies. Though breeding for a specific trait is also good, such as for Sailfin mollies whose fins are always black and whose bodies are mostly orange. Random colors are good too. You could always try and make a completely different color, at my local LFS they've started selling 'Halloween Mollies' Which are, orange with black fins :) (It's a family owned operation and they take in unwanted fry as well as breed some of their own stock) So clearly someone had succeeded in their attempt at creating a new color variation of Molly.

But generally most people like to buy really interesting and brightly colored fish. So I'd say your efforts are not wasted, assuming you can come up with a strain that is unique enough.

Ahhh mine have simular colourings to what you described the Halloween Molly

I'll get better pictures but just to show how They are coming out

And the new fry I have are a black but reddy grey colour At the moment so not sure how they will turn out as they get bigger

Hello. Although i am crazy about platy and not so much mollies, i scour shop after shop for unique platy. In a tank of blue mickey mouse platy ill pick the only one with yellow fins. With the red body black tuxedo platy tank i chose the black and white one...missing the red.

So you have lots and lots of hope! :)
