Hi, I have come downstairs this morning and one of my pregnant Mollies is in a real state. She has red bubbly things hanging out of her. My question is , is it the fry and could it right itself? (Have to ask even though I think that is unlikely). Or does she need euthenising? I couldn't cut off her head so is the best way an alcohol bath? I do not have any clove oil. Any advise much appreciated as I need to act ASAP for her sake. Thanks.

Does the red bubble thing look like there worms inside it.

I couldn't see that well. It didn't look like entrails (I haven't actually seen any but I imagine they would be continuous?). It looked like red bubbles. When I went back downstairs (after about 20mins) it had gone and there was what looked like a bit of skin. After that it has all gone. She is hiding in a plant as the other fish are pestering her. I turned the lights off this morning to give her a rest. I am glad I didn't rush to euthenase (sp?) her as I think she has a chance now. I have seen some new fry in the tank so perhaps it was a blockage of some kind?

I am not sure what is going on, but I would not euthanise that fish. buy daphnia, her pregnacy may have had complications because she is might be constipated. If she dies, have a vet do an autopsy, something may have gone wrong.

An autopsy? that's going to be horrendously expensive I would imagine. I have no advice but that isn't something I would consider, maybe on a dog or something if I thought it was contagious.

I give my fish peas once a week to prevent constipation. I think maybe it was a miscarriage? As they give birth to live young I thought that might be possible. She seems ok now. It was a horrible sight and I wanted to put her out of her misery quickly to prevent her suffering but luckily I don't need to now. Ironically the night before I was looking at the fish and thinking how nice they looked! Never get smug! She has had fry before with no problems and she is quite a big molly. As to the autopsy my brother in law is a vet but his special interest is birds. Thanks for the advice.

Glad everything turned out well in the end.
Congrats with the fry.
