Hi

i am fairly new to all of this, but I have a black sailfin who is enormously pregnant, so I put her in the breeder tank thinking any minute now!! - She went mad she was doing 360 degree somersaults and everything!! so I let her out again not wanting to stress her What do I do??? please

Thanks

Lisa :S

She's probably stressed out by the net. What other fish do you have, and why do you need to use a net? Is it possible to let the fry take their chances in the main tank? A lot of people do this. SHe might be more comfortable giving birth in her own spot in the tank.

Thanks

There are only other mollies in the tank, but won't the fry be eaten?

Lisa

Do you have any plants in your tank or large marbles? These can be added to give the fry a safe place to hide. Chances are if you add lots of hiding places in the main tank, the other mollies won't find them and most will survive.

Hi

Yes, I have both, plants and marbles, so hopefully all should be well - Can I leave her in the tank with the or do I move her straight away?

Thanks

If there are lots of plants and marbles the fry will have lots of hiding spots so you can go ahead and leave them in the main tank. Just let the mom have birth in the main tank. And if you want you can scoop up the fry after she has finished giving birth and has returned to her normal self. That is what I did and I scooped them up and put them in the breeding net. I had lots of plants and hiding spots for my fry but I also had a catfish...he ate most of the fry and 7 survived. I don't think the mollies will go out of their way to eat the fry but to be safe I would stick them in the breeder trap until they grew a little bigger.

Goodluck!
