I`m confused about my molly. I think she is pregnant, i can see a gravid spot and she has got a biggish belly.but its comming up 3 weeks now and nothing has happened really. she isnt getting any bigger, not acting any dfferent, she is slightly territorial to the other molly i put in there for company but nothing major. what should i do??? should i give it a bit longer and just keep an eye on her or is this usual for mollys? i was told they take about 2-3 weeks for gestation so i could be a few days out.

any ideas?

kind regards
fishcake

the gestatoin period for most livebearers is 4 weeks, give or take a week.
where is she housed?
any other tank mates?

Shes in a tank with another female molly. it was the tank for my goldfish so they are a bit "lost" in there. I think i read somewhere that putting a male in there helps things along. is this true?

thank you for the help.

i would personally take the other female out, she will probably bother the other when in laybour, probably the first sign on laybour is faster breathing, mollies don't usually eat there fry like other livebearers do. what size is the tanks shes in?

The tank she is in is about 20 litres or slightly more. If i take the black female out will pregg fish be lonely or is it okay??? there is definately a dark mass in her belly in the right light so i`m hoping its the frys.
this is her first time if that makes any difference.

yes take tthe other female out,
how long have had her?
are the goldfish still in the tank???
are there any external signs of disease? like spots, rubbing of things etc
i don't think she has a disease but i'd rather be safe than you loose her to one :good:

I`ll move the other female in a bit i`ve only just fed them, so ill let things calm down first.
I had her about 2 months when we got her she was smaller than any of the other mollies but soon caught up.
The goldfish have been moved to another tank for the moment.
She doesnt appear to be ill. she has a tiny brown mark on her chest because when we got her she had a tiny red mark there but it looks like a scar, nothing i can see wrong there.

then i would leave her in that tank for just over a week, if no fry then i'd put her back in the pther tank, even if she was to drop her fry in the other tank as long as you have loads of hiding places and small gaps where the fry can get and nothing else you should get a few survive. good luck with her and let me know if theres any developements :good:
