I added recently two females and 1 male to my original 2 females.
Mr Male jusr went round peacefully exploring the tank but the girls had a right bust up. This was no little arguement as they where really going for each other. There where no sides old v new , it was a free for all.
They have calmed down a bit but they continue to scrap.
One in perticular one of the new ones which is pregnant is constantly bullied so i have put her in the trap.

She is quite Bulky but not bursting but i had to get her out of there.
How long does she have before Birth. Like i said she is fat but not bursting but it just did not stop so had to isolate her. They where (the Girls) trying to get to her through the trap!
It must be because she is pregnant. Now i can see signs of the other newbie showing signs.

I only usually put the fry in the trap if i can catch enough before being eaten as i do not like to put the mother in there but i had no choice it really was getting nasty like a witchhunt.

How long has she got and why so much aggression

Thanks

It's really hard to say how long it will be, without seeing the fish, or knowing how fat she gets. They all vary. I'd say around a week? That's my guess.

It may just be aggression because they are new. I'd add in hiding places, so they can have their own territory, and just keep an eye on them. They should settle down. :)

Fish always like places to escape to and hide whether or not they are pregnant. Pregnancy can make them more aggressive, but unless she looks like she about to burst, she's probably not ready to give birth.

Keeping a mother in her own tank is probably the best way to ensure fry survival. Breeders cause stress and cause the mother to abort often times.

i keep mollies and the only agression ive ever had from them has been females on females, but they do eventually calm down

My female mollies dont often scrap I have 3 golden coloured ones and 1 white dalmation coloured female the white one is slighty bigger and sometimes likes to dictate when the others will get a little bit of food. the males dont really have much to do with each other than at feeding time. my black dalmation male has a thing for female swords though

Hi- Happy New Year! My dalmation male, of course, chases the female (s), but he has also been chasing the growing male fry. About a month ago, he seemed to have exhausted one so much that it died-(i don't think there were any other males at the time). On another note, I just starting feeding cooked & shelled peas to them and delight in how they go nuts!! I've tried a little broccoli, too, which they also like to nibble at--I think I should have boiled (microwaved) them a little longer.

A very happy new year to all my fishie friends.
