I have 5 surviving Molly Fry. :D 2 are slightly bigger and about a week older and the other 3 are obviously slightly smaller and one week younger. How old should they be or how large should they be before returning them to the main tank.

At present they are housed in a small 12x8x8 isolation tank. Although they are fine for the time being, they are approaching the size of the Neon Tetra's in the community tank. They would have to cope with a Large Silver Dollar, and 2 Medium to Large Angel Fish. :flex:

I'm not planning an iminent move but would like to have an idea of when it will be safe.

As long as the fry are bigger than the fish mouth it should be fine.

Wait as long as you can and then slip in the bigger ones just after feeding time. If all goes well then you know! Good Luck. I lost a lot of sword fry thinking they were big enough, but if they are about the size of neons they sould be fine

I would not rush things because this can lead to a loss of fish....trust me i know.....i was impatient and i wanted to watch my little guys swimming with in my community tank....but they never had a chance....Mollies have pretty big mouths!....lol so just make sure like someone said abouve that they are bigger than the mouths of the big fish!

Good luck

Thanks to all  I won't be moving them at leat for another week or so or longer as their is no rush just yet to put them with the big fish. They still need fry food and this could be difficult to give them in the big tank. Initially they will go into the isolation tank which is setup in the 125 gallon tank but my husband decided that cycling with 40 fish would be okay especially with the previous media. How wrong could he be.

Still waiting for the last nitrIte to disappear first. So, until then, they can be safe in the little tank. :D
