I'm the proud father of about 25 molly fry :D Somebody posted earlier about how finding the fry made their day, and I have to say that (this is my first batch) it totally made my week. My question: when do the fry start developing color? I know it is probably too early (they are only 4 days old), but I'm anxious to see what colors they'll be. thanks

It depends on a lot of things really - what color are the parents? Mine start to color around 1 week but I really can't tell what exactly I have. The golden/orange spots really become brilliant at about 6 weeks. I feed mine live brine shrimp along with other things - it seems to bring them along faster then when I didn't. Best of luck and let us know what you end up with!

Momma is a marigold, but she was pregnant when i first got her (didn't have those babies or they got eaten right away). She's been in with a two different males- a black and silver lyretail, both of whom she and my dalmation (who I had to donate back to the fish store, too aggressive) killed. :-( I feed them frozen baby brine shrimp...do live help that much?

hey man congrats. i had 33, gave 5 away and 3 died so it must be a really big coincidence. mine are orange, black,or a mixture. mother was orange balloon and father was a sunset sailfin molly. i had color right away. gl

You can pretty much get a general idea right away what color they're ganna be. It may change a little bit as they get bigger. I had one born with an orange head and a dalmation body that showed on day one. Now the black is faded to a dark grey, but her head is still orange. My new ones are black, dalmation and silver. Maybe one white...I hope. :)

hmmmm.....I can't imagine they'll stay the same color they are now. they've all got black bodies with whitish heads
