I had 23 Molly fries day before yesterday. I have a tank of 1ft by .5ft by .75 ft(height). The molly frfies were good for 1 week. Due to temperature change, I put a thermostat (100W) to control the temperature. It was set to 26 deg C. 5 molly fries were dead by yesterday night. I changed the temperature to 24 deg C thinking probably the temperature was high. I had 7 molly fries dead by morning today. And now in the evening, all remaining molly fries are dead.

The water was also changed day before yesterday as the water earlier had turned cold. I had also changed the food for the fries 3 days ago. Earlier, I was giving Tokyu pellets soaked and mixed in water. Then the food was changed to dried worms powder from the local market which the shopkeeper said was good for the fries.

What could be the reason for the fries' death?

Now I have a pregnant guppy and want to raise the fries in the small tank. Kindly suggest

Molly fries need water change every tow days of interval but not full water change but 30% of the total water should be change every another day, give them a temperature around 22 to 28 deg C not more/less then that and feed them brine shrimp if possible. Its better to separate them from there parents for 3 days.

Thanks Sandip. I tried to get Brine shrimp but I could not. I need to know what care I should take for the guppy fries. The guppy would be delivering in a few days.

I don't change anything when my mollies have fry, the water changes remain weekly 50% and I feed them the same food the rest of the fish eat just crumble it up a bit more in my hand.. I've only ever lost 2 and this was because they was eaten before I could get them into a breeding trap. Water temp is 26-27.

I find when you start messing with things and changing routine this is when you run into problems, you need to remember you have to cater for the rest of the fish aswell. My rainbow fish change colour so rapidly when distressed so its easy to tell when I'm winding them up, changing the water so often doesn't allow them time to settle and I find there colours fade a bit. When they are left for a week and I do everything I need to do quickly in 1 sitting, they wouldnt usually have hands flying around and water changes so changing water so often is just gonna #101## them off.

Thats the way I see it anyway and i've had no problems with fry or fish in my tank so far so its the way I'm gonna carry on, I'm sure some people will disagree but I'm more concerned in looking after my adult fish than I am my fry, maybe its just luck but I've never lost a fry due to water conditions or unexplained death.
