i had 6 mollies but one died and i think it was due to birth as nine babies appeared. today all the fish were ok but when i got back from work 8 hours later i found a molliy floating at the top and it looked like it had been half eaten away as you could see its bones with no flesh on bottom half of body. any help why this happened would be much appreciated.

i have

4 adult mollies
1 4 month old molly
9 baby mollies
2 plecs
2 japonica shrimps.
10 us gallon tank (looking for a bigger one)

any help please

Bless her R.I.P.
Its quite common for livebearers to die after giving birth.
Sounds like the plecs have been busy eating her.
What type of pleca are they as there not many small plecs for 10 gallons.

its another fish that has died and been eaten not the one that gave birth. just a common plec as far as i know i also seem to be getting alot of snails very quickly aswell not sure how bad this is either.

Have you tested your water in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
Its hard to say without any symtoms to go on.
Check water quality.

i have not got any testers but i do have to admit to only doing partial cleans about every 3 weeks and did one tonight after i found the dead fish. could stress be a problem as my tank may be too small for the amount of fish i have.?? the swim about slowly but seem ok and always eat when fed. no symtoms that i can see but i aint no fish expert either.

many thanks

found another molly dead this morning and looked really thin compared to the rest of the fish. they seem to be swimming around slower now and not that interested in food as much, as they ate for a few seconds then nothing!! the plecs and the shrimps look fine and the babies too just the adults?? it was a male sail fin that died. how can u tell how old fish are?? i am have had them 8 months but not sure of thier actual age.

many thanks

need help though and i dont want any more deaths

cheers
justin

Need to look at your water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
A fish been skinny means the fish lost weight due to not eating, old age, internal parasites, fish tb.
Check the anus of the fish to see if its enlarged, or red and inflamed.
Long stringy white poo.
Any worms prutruding from the anus.
