right then balloon mollies

i had my tank setup properly for over 15 months now, and had ballon mollies for over 12 of them and am yet to have single fry from them, i have had different males and different females. There is some molly action :p bu no fry so i am at my wits end. the male chases everything around and you see it take place and all the watching you never see the sign of birth like i do with my platys and guppies and there no otjer signs to say they are due

no mollies

so dud to no baloon babies i decided to get normal mollies, i have these now for some time too and still no babies and again they arebdoing the business but only have 1 male to 3 females

what do you suggest i do to get some fry cause everyone else i speak to and ask say they are easy to breed but for me its imposibble should i get some more males or what, any help would be GREAT!!! any questions just ask

I think you should get many plants, so the fry can hide.

it also could be temperature, it has to be around 75-82 (average)

that was my problem with platies, i had them in a 10gl. for a while in a 71 degree tank, they just swam together, then i got a heater, and now i have fry! hehe

well that is all i can think of, unless your male is steral.

you also can get a smaller (5-10gl.) birthing tank, mine worked GREAT with guppies, you dont have to go through the process of catching fry!

wait for other people to post to see if they have any more suggestions

hope this helped,

i bought some swordtails a week ago today and they had fry three days later in tank that was about 72-74 degrees(rooom temp.) I now have 1 1/2-2dozen swordtail fry that i had in a two gallon tank and moved to a 10 gal. tank last night without cycleing it. I noticed that they had grown a lot over night just from the tank switch(is this common :dunno: ) I have three plants that are about 3 - 4 inches tall in the tank a rock cave a tower and a coral reef tunel that is fake. I have heard that the algea that grows on logs is good for the fish is this true? If so if i were to soak a piece of wood from out side in boiling water would it be safe to add to the tank? the fry are now five days old and are just under a centemeter in length. Is this about right. they also are all different lengths from looking like it hasn't grown any to approaching a centemeter. :dunno:  i love them so much. It is so cool to have the chance to do this.

well my tank is v planted and the temp has gone from colder to high over the year to see and no good any more ideas p.s i have the fry tank too

I don't know if this will work or not but maybe if another type of fish were to lay then it might make them lay(kind of a peer presure thing.) I know that it works with birds maybe it will work for fish. Just a suggestion.

well my guppies do and my platys do and swords have started now!! next suggestion

really does my head in cause i sell mine to the lfs and they say got any mollies and i always say NO i just dunno wht to do?

Ask them for some advice as to what to do. Wait for some replies on the one i posted on aquarium salt to see if that will help any.

they say keep trying with different males, but i am setting up a new fry tank at the minute i may buy 1 male and 1 female and pop them in there see what they do, new tank etc.
i wouldnt have thought that colour would matter as they are different but all marbled.
also do baloon mollies bredd with normal mollies

What's your water's pH? Mollies tend to be more sensitive to this IME than other livebearers. They like harder, more alkaline water. Some salt, a higher temp and a tank of their own would likely help. Balloon and normal mollies should be able to breed together as they are the same species.

havent checked ph for a while but hasnt changed i wouldnt havent thought and i dont like ph lowering and highering products
