my male molly is just sitting on the bottom of the tank...he doesnt look ill !!! i opened the lid earlier and he started swimming around but then he went down to the bottom again..all the other fish look ok! ne ideas?
What are your water parameters?
how long have you had the tank?
is the tank cycled?
what other tank mates does your molly have?
How often do you do water changes?
Is he a Black Molly?
Have you notice anyone picking on him/bullying him?
Without this type of information it is very very difficult to help.
Ok you have 30 mollies in one tank. I would bet he is being beat up, and his lunch money stoled everyday. If you have to many males in the tank one or more will do this.
water params are fine..althou i did have high nitrates but i changed the water.
this tank has been up and running for aaaaaaages.....
his tank mates are..other mollys all female 2 adult 5 babies, tetras and betta..
no bullying from wot ive seen
betta dont really like him but most of the time they dont go near each other! oh and 2 loaches...he's laying next to one of them now they get along fine!
What is your PH & KH. The reason I ask is Mollies like quite a high PH.
If you have a low buffering (KH) and you have NitrAte at high levels for a period of time the NitrAte (Nitric Acid) will actually lower the PH of your tank. I found all this out recently after I lost one black molly and my other mollies all became ill, exactly the same symptoms.
I would suggest checking at least the PH levels in your tank, if high then I may be off the mark, but if they are low, i would suggest you also then check you KH levels. Let us know what the levels are.
Also you say you did a water change, what are the nitrAte reading now?
duno id have to test again...i dont have PH and Kh never knew u needed it! is it essential! i might just do another water water change cos that would be adding the same PH water as its been all along! oo he's up and swimming!!! maybe it was resting!!! false alarm if he does it again and stays like it ill let u know.
