Is my balloon molly about to give birth? She isnt very big but she is panting her gills a couple times a second. Her gravid spot is very visible. She isnt really at the bottom at the tank, shes all the way at the top of the tank.

She is also swimming at the top. The only thing im looking into is the gill panting but maybe its normal. I never rly payed attention to how fast they breathe normally.

hmm... sounds like something's wrong with the little thing... I wouldn't say she's about to give birth, when they are they stay still, breathe fast, and usually hide behind plants, filters, or heaters. Are her gills pink or red?

No. I think shes alright. I looked at my other balloon molly and they look liek they are breatheing teh same way. I guess a got overexcited and imagined excess breatheing! This is my first batch of fry. I dont have any male molly so she had it from the lfs. It makes me excited because i also bought 2 female platys for my 3 males a couple weeks ago and they are not trying to mate at all and the females arent getting pregnant. The reason i bought females was to get babies. Now the least expected fish is gonna have fry.

haha, good news...give it time with the platys...they more than likely have sperm stored inside them and they will decide when to use it to become pregnant. Conditions in your tank, once they are right for the fish, will spark them to breed like rabbits!! :)

Its just that the males NEVER try to mate with the females. i never seen it once. maybe the conditions arent right?
