Hi in my tank I have 5 female mollies and 3 males, but all 3 males are mating with this one specific female, they won't leave her alone and it is actually looking quite violent, they have been at it for 4 hours non-stop all morning, and I can't help but think about how much stress she will be under, I don't have a separate tank to separate them, any help please?

Can you get hold of a breeder trap that you can hang over the side of your existing tank and put her in that?

I would normally do that but there are new born guppies already in there :(

get a plastic bown and put the fry in and just put the bowl floating on top of your water, use the trap for the female for now, but you need to ratio them out more, if you have 3 males, you want at least 6 females, but i always think its best to have 3 females for every male.
Only other option you have is to get rid of 1 or even 2 of the males, because yu dont want to be leaving the female in a trap for more than 48 hours she will just get way to stressed.

Sorry DB got called away earlier.

The only other suggestion that I have is to fill a bucket with tank water, put a filter, airstone and heater in it and put her into that for a couple of days. You'll be using the bucket as a hospital/quarantine tank - just keep a good eye on the ammonia levels etc as you may be fish in cycle, but at least she will be getting a rest from the males.

Regards

David

Thanks for all your advice, I found a little plastic breeding trap to keep her in over night just to let her and the males settle down, I think I'll buy a few more females before the end of the week just to even everything out :)

Glad to hear that you have sorted the problem - I'm sure that she will be glad of the rest
