You know how big ID sharks get right?

You say no ammonia, what about nitrite and nitrate?

What are the "other tropical fish"?

Well, I've been told that I.D. sharks would get about 12 inches long, and I'm setting up a 125 gallon by december. My other fish are angels, platy, neons, sword tails, and 3 unknown. Nitrate and Nitrite are not present in the tank. I feed 2 times a day, all other fish seems to be o.k. what is the problem with the mollies?? :dunno:

if they die right away, you probably aren't acclimating them correctly.

if they die within a few days, you're probably suffering from "Old Tank Syndrome". see the pinned topics in Beginners for a full explanation.

if they die within a few weeks, any number of things could be wrong. :dunno: one thing is for sure, your temperature is unnecesarily high. turn down your heater a bit; 78 degrees is good for most fish.

you should have some sort of ammonia/nitrite/nitrate reading, especially in a tank as heavily stocked as yours. what tests are you using? how long has this tank been set-up and how often do you perform water changes?

Do you think my tank is over crowded ( 12 fishes in a 35 gallons) they are very small fish, except for the 2 sharks. Please let me know.

for the test, they are kits that you add drops to the water, I don't have the name.

I do a water change 10% every 2 weeks. the Pet shop told me water changes should be done every 6 weeks???????????????????

I will check out the article on old tank syndrome and redo the test tonight.

thanks

i'd be more inclined to do a weekly water change.i do a 35 - 40% water change on a weekly basis.

2 problems (at least). Okay 4.
1) feeding twice a day- you can't show me a fish that needs to eat twice a day. Most fish can deal with once a day, or even every other day. My lg angel, cardinals and cories get fed on Fri evening and don;t eat until I get to work Mon morning every week. They are healthy and the angel continues to grow.
2) water changes- Like rixy said, you really need to step up the water changes. Do it gradually though- don;t do a 75% change to catch up. The ph shock will kill them all.
Both 1 and 2 are leading to
3) Poor water quality- i don't believe that your nitrAtes are zero. That test kit must be no good.
4) An angel can get 5" tall easy. i know, I have a 4" one. You don't say how many you have, and then there are the "other fish" that you have.

If you don't list specifics we can't give a specific answer. Although in this case it seems obvious that overstocking, overfeeding, and lack of proper water change schedule all combined to reduce water quality is your problem. Slowly step up the change rate, lower the temp like was mentioned and please at least trade in the 2 ID sharks.

What would be the best kit to buy?? I tested my water last night, it's fine.

for my fishes: 3 gouramis, 1 angelfish, 2 swordtail, 2 i.d. sharks, 2 platies and 1 pleco. They will have a new home by December, I'm setting up a 125 for them.

I will do a water change this weekend, and buy a new test kit.

I feed all my fish 2/day. 125 tank (oscars), 75 tank (african cichlids) and 35 tank (community). Never had a problem before.

thanks for the info :)
