Mollies Turning In To Platys?!

I have some Black Mollies and some Yellow ones. About 2 months ago they all had long bits coming from their tail fins (top and bottom). Now the black ones have lost these and look like the tails on my Platys! The Yellow Mollies still have these pronounced tips.

Any idea why?

could they have been nipped off?

What is the colour that the tips have changed to? If its whitish then it could be finrot or signs of nipping.

If they just seem to have grown longer then your fish maybe moontails.
