I think she is, she's very fat anyway

I dont have a seperate tank so im unsure what to do. If she has them, wont they just float around in the tank and get eaten?

Someone told me that some of them babies will hide untill they are big enough to swim freely, is this the case?

Im pretty sure that most of them will die anyway, but what happens when she has them, where will she have them, what will they look like, and if i keep them in the tank what do i need to do?

Also how long will she be pregnant for? I think she may alreadyhave been when we bought her as she has got very fat very quickly and the male mollie wont leave her alone!!!

:dunno:

Allix,

My mollies have given birth so many times I've lost count. To raise the babies, simply buy a hang on the tank breeder net. They cost around $5.00. It's simply a mesh cube you hang on the tank.

Now,get your fish net and scoop them up and put them in the breeder net. Feed them fry food and watch them grow.

best of luck,
Asaint

You can also help by adding a lot of plant cover so the babies get a chance to hide until you put them into the breeding trap.

Hi Allix

When I bought my silver mollies the 3 females were already pregnant - they gave birth overnight as I never saw one giving birth just found the fry in the tank.

Get a breeding net and scoop the fry out and put them in the net as already mentioned (you could also use a breeding cage (Plastic one which has slits in it so the water flows through - shop bought)) - they both work.

I ended up buying a 18" tank to breed them in and then when they were big enough (about 1 " in length) putting some of them back into another tank as this allowed the slower developers to not have to fight for the food.

I ended up giving a lot of the fry to friends (again when they were about 1" long)

Phil
