ok, I need an opinion here, i noticed today a huge bitemark out of the top of my black sailfin molly, and I'm trying to figure out what could of done it...

My stocking list is in my signature, plus I added 2 colombian sharks the other day (to be moved to a bigger tank when they get bigger)

Hi

It is definitely not the Columbian Cat Sharks. I always had Cat Sharks, I have kept them with allsorts of fish and they never bother any of them. My biggest Cat Shark is about 14 inch and my Monos nick the food from him.

Assuming it wasn't the mollies damaging one another in a fight, I'd perhaps put the money on the sleeper. Although largely vegetarian, Dormitator spp. will certainly "suck it and see" when it comes to anything silly enough to swim too close. Given the molly is otherwise fine, the sleeper probably discovered it was too big to be eaten and spat it out.

I agree with Sabby; Colombian sharks are -- despite their formidable appearance -- utter wusses that basically wouldn't harm anything not obviously prey (tiny fish, crustaceans, etc.). They should really be called "Colombian shark kittens".

Cheers, Neale

lol, fair enough. the goby does like to pick on new fish, so i can see that, however, hes been in the tank longer than the goby. I guess he got bored last night. :dunno:
