Hi, i am new to these forums and i have been browsing around these livebearer boards cause i loooove mollys and guppys. I have a 20 gallon tank that currently has some african fish in it and a rosy barb wich seem to get along well with eachother, but i am going to give those away and put some mollys in, but i am thinking of getting different kinds of mollies so i can create a nwe strain. How many mollies can i get for 20 gallon? And wich mollies will get along? The kinds of mollies i like are : Black and gold mollies, black lyretails, and silver mollys. I also like dalmation mollies and marble mollies and highfinned mollies

Thanks you, Neoman :D

id say 7 or 8...some may say more..but bare in mind that pretty soon you'll be over run with fry...also its wise to keep a ratio of 2 females to every 1 male you have...

You are going to have a lot of fun with this - I'd go with 9, 1 male to two females of your 3 favorite kinds - they will mix and you'll get some interesting crosses. :D

ALASKA

When you trade off the fish that live in there don't wait too long before you get your mollies so that you don't starve your bennificial bacteria.

Well i already have one silver molly. Thanks everyone! I am so eager to do this i <3 mollies! ;)

i used to havw a black lyretail female but when i put the silver molly female in with it it died. I think the tank was too small, it was very very small, like not even half a gallon, because i thought i was going to do this exchange sooner. Wich stinks because my black lyretail was about to have babies. But it s fins were kind of tattered, the silver molly fins are very high quality, no bite marks or anything whatsoever. Thhis is going to be my first time breeding molllies, i am breeding guppies also. I currently have about 50 fry. two batches, one batch of 4 and one of i cant count how many, and i am expecting more very soon. I think I should be ready if the molly has babys. The wholes in the filter arent that big, so if i get some nice plants for the baby mollies to hide in, i think they should be ok. :p

can i keep a pleco in with them? Or should i replace it with some cories or not have it at all? I just want to know because i dont know if it will eat the fry!

I would have to agree with alaska. 9 would be a suitable number.

As for the pleco I wouldn't put him in there. not because i think he would eat the fry but because he will get too BIG! :D

but if and when your tank gets alage (or if it already has some) I would say 2 or 3 ottos could go in there as well. They stay just around an inch!

I put the silver molly in a few hours ago.... Its is doing fine! I am so happy! I wonder what other types of mollies i should pick? I am starting out with just3, i am gonna get i male and one female cause i already have one female. :hooray:
