I have a 10 gallon tank with a female mollie, a mollie fry and a swordtail.

I want to give the mollies something green to eat (other than the plants :/ ).

Can I just drop a (small) chunk of blanched cucumber in there and then leave it ? Or do I need to stick to the 'no more than they can eat in 3 minutes' rule ?

No, you can leave it in there for a while. Just take it out after a while, because decomposing vegetables can really mess up your water stats.

Also, all the fish you mentioned need a bigger tank. Do you have upgrading plans? :)

Thanks.

I do have plans to upgrade but I thought the general rule was 1" of fish per gallon ?

I know they'll grow but I didnt think that they would reach over 3" each ?

1" of fish per gallon is a guideline that applies to small, slimbodied fish. Mollies can get up to 6", depending on the type, and Swordies will get to 3-4", not including the tail if it's male. You also need to consider swimming space, not just stocking space. They are both active fish that will enjoy room. :)
