Hi...I have a 55 gal live plant tank. Had 3 regular type mollies, all white, no long fins, one male and two female. I bought 4 lyrtail sailfin mollies, 3 white and one a dalmation. Whew is there some fighting going on. The dalmation is a bully seems like, and one of the originals which was always a sweety has his little bit of fins up and they jump at each other. Another one is getting involved also. I have 1 platinum gourami, 2 opal gouramis and some rummy noses. Wondering if I have two many mollies, and need to remove some. The lyretail are showing me that they are a little aggressive. Is there something not right with my water. I had it checked today, and it is in complete balance? Please give me any recommendations, as I have been focusing on mollies and don't know a lot. Need guidance. thanks

I have one tailfin black molly and she is very agressive as well. Cannot give you any suggestions, for I am new to this hobby. My black molly was the third fish I put in my tank. She is the largest and really picks on my 2 platies. 3 days after I placed her in the tank, she had babies (lfs told me she was a male) :( . So, now I have 7 babies in the tank with her...she leaves them alone though. She is due any day to give birth again. It seems that towards the end of her pregnancy she gets real aggressive, especially when I feed them. Don't know if any of this info. will help you. Hope someone else will chime.

That sort of behaviour is pretty normal for mollies, especially if you've added new fish to the tank. It takes them some time to re-sort the hierachy in the tank. It might look nasty but mollies don't really do any damage to each other, mainly just fin slapping. Mine fought when I added new ones, but it settled down after a few days once they sorted themselves out. HTH :D

I have a white lyretail molly who had to be removed from the main tank from extreme aggression. One day he decided he was king of the tank and nearly picked my male sailfin to literal death. It was more than fin slapping, the white one was taking BITES of the black one's fins and actually sucked off some of the scales off of the black one. I had to break up the fights with a net so I could catch the white one. The black one hid in the back under the air bar stone for a week and wouldn't even eat. The white one is in another tank by himself with a new black lyretail female and the sailfin is still in the other tank, happier and healthy, king of the queens again. Sometimes that just happens. :/
