why would my fish eat the hair algea that attached to my plants?

its funny because after reading the post on fish poop i realised they were being over fed because of my lil sis 'training them' with food!!! so.... i stopped feeding them for a few days and just fed them afew flakes at night....
but now ive found them eating the hair algea which is not helping them at all lol....

there i was trying to not feed them and they feed themselves!!!!!!

Thats what fish do... when there is not food readily available, they eat what they can find. Mine suck on the algea growing on my driftwood.

I think that is a positive. :D

I recently had alot of algae, cut down on feedings. Last couple of weeks notice my algae becoming less and less. :)

Normally the only fish that will eat hair algae are siamese flying foxes!!
I had a nightmare trying to buy true species of these..........if your mollies are really eating the hair algae vixen..........well done!! :)

In the wild (at least for mollies, not certain about tetras) algae is a part of their diet, so it's not that unuasual they would snack on it in the aquarium. They are not big algae eaters, and they probably don't always make a noticable difference, but I'd bet most every molly in a tank with some algae will at least occassionally eat some.
