for a range of colour i wanted these Mollies, Gold, Dalmation, Silver, Black and Leopard, and i wondered,

can i just have the one black molly or do they prefer being in pairs as i think i might have read that somewhere before?

can i have a female Platie with the Mollies, ive seen some lovely deep red ones and wondered if she would get stressed being on her own or would she be fine with the small group of Mollies?

any help would be much appreciated

I had two black mollies in my tank, (a male and a female) the male as i'd read about did constantly follow the female around but it wasn't such a problem in my tank as they were the only fish in there and she soon figured out she could get away.

So in terms of black mollies I'd say if you have a large tank say 100 liters (20US Gallons) plus then why not get a small group of black mollies they seem be be perfectly happy swimming with many of them in one tank which I've also read about.

They also look amazing when there's a few of them together I've seen it at my lfs. They seem to shoal.

Not sure about the opther types of platie though.

Hoope that helps a bit :)

They'll be fine together, however I recommend adding some marine salt, to make your tank slightly brackish. Especially if you have soft, acidic water. The Platies won't mind at all, and it will benefit your Mollies. :)
