have posted this in livebearers as well but thought someone on here might have an answer for me as need to sort it out pretty quickly.

today i bought 3 mollies one black one white and one orange. with a 2:1 female to male ratio. the white and black have settled in fine but the orange one is being chased by two of my male guppys. all three are males so i dont get it. have fed them to try and distract the gupps to get them to forget about the new fish but they ignored the food and carreid on chasing him which is unusal as they are normally greedy.
will this stop when they get used to him or will they bully him forever?? if there weren't two of them i'd laugh as they are only half the size of him but two together might manage to hurt him!!!
HELP PLEASE!!!!

Well, fish bullying can be kinda complicated. We can't always predict what fish are going to do - they're all different. You might need to just watch them and make a call with your best judgement. I myself have had fish bully other fish to death without my knowing.

So all in all, its going to be your call. If it ends, good deal, but still watch them in case it procedes without your knowing. If it is constant, you need to get him out of there - its never any fun, but maybe you need to return him?

Let me get this straight... Two Guppy's are bullying your Molly, your MOLLY! Never heard of guppy's picking on Molly's before...

i was thinking that ill have to take him back though am confused about why they are only chasing him and not the others maybe its his colour. one of them has lost interest hopefully the other will!!

thanks for your advice.

i KNOW they are tiny in comparison thats why i dont get it!! cocky little things thought the betta i had was bad enough with his attitude problem but these guys are going to get battered when he settles in.

i would try some female guppies if you have the space, see if that distracts them, and if your worried about getting loads of fry just leave them to fend for themdelves then only a few if any will survive

Might try that but I currently have 7 male guppys so apparently would need at least 7 female guppys ideally 14!!! I would have a tank full of Guppys!!!
Will leave them for a few days and see how they do the molly is alot bigger so he should be ok!! if not will look into getting more guppys!! think they are chasing him because he is really bright orange!
thanks for your help. any more suggestions are greatly appreciated!! :flowers:

well if you have 7 males maybe females is out of the question, but do they bother any other fish or just the molly?

they only ever bothered the guppy. since my last post they started to bug him again he turned around and kind of flared his fins at them (his dorsal fin is very large when upright) and swam at them. they practically wet themselves to get away from him and haven't been near him since that i know of. he seems to of stood up to his bullies!! well there only little so im not surprised!!

thanks for your help!!!!

Hi All,

I have a guppy who was sick and is now well, but there are two guppies chasing him. They are all males. It seems like they may be picking at him. Or just following him? Anyway, if anyone has any ideas why....I'm perplexed. I may just put him in his own tank.

Double Trouble, I'm so happy to hear that your Molly stood up to the bullies....and got rid of them. YAY for him!!!!

Thanks, Susan
