Mollies And Cories

is it a bad idea to keep them together, since the mollies like salt and the cories dont? or is there some kind of middle-of-the road amount of salt i can add that will benefit the mollies without bothering the cories?

I am in this predicament I only have 1 cory and 6 mollies! I a watching the cory carefully and if needs be I will take him out, but he is such a busy little hoover.

u dont actually need salt with mollies they are bred nowadays in a unsalted tank and transfered 2 lfs which also have unsalted tanks so IMO they wont need it anyways as for the cory's NO they hate salt and i personally wouldnt add any salt with them wot so ever

hmm, well at my lfs they have aquarium salt in ALL their tanks, including the ones with the cories (though they didnt tell me how much )

liz2, i read on another of my posts that you responded to (thanks for that by the way) that you added just a little bit of salt, how much is just a little bit? was it just like a tablespoon for like 30 gallons or something? cuz id be comfortable adding very small amounts, considering the lfs uses salt

yes, ive gotten 10 mollies from petsmart and 8 of them have died

i got 4 catfish and they are all doing fine, despite my very hard, alkaline water

the mollies seem unable to make the switch from salted to unsalted water... i want to keep them from dying, but i dont want to kill my catfish

wots ur ammonia , nitrite,nitrate readings? & was ur tank cycled?

i wouldn't reccomend adding salt with cories or any other catfish loaches etc, its not good for them
