Hi all,

New here and I'm hoping someone can help me out. We have a freshwater fish 55 gallon tank. There are 3 sucker fish and about 12 other various type of fresh water fish in the tank. One of the White Mollies starting swmming eractically last week, as if her(?) equilibrium was off. The next day she was a lot better but now she is swimming sideways. She "seems" healthy, she is not missing any fins but she is swimming sideways. All the other fish seem to be fine and are not affected. Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong? And if so anything I could try to help her out. Or is she dying and I just need to hope she is not suffering? It's hard to watch but I don't know if there is anything I can do.

Thanks in advance.

Probably a swim bladder. Place him in a seprate tank, put some aquarium salt and don't feed him for 2-3 days and set your temp to 86, turn on the lights and once you do the feeding feed him with flakes or pellets few bits is cool. Don't overfeed him.

I forgot.... he needs oxygen too and 20% water change every other day.

Goodluck.

Right need water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph, can she maintain her balance in the the water, what do you feed your fish, what does it look like when she goes to the toilet, are scales sticking out, plus any signs of laboured breathing or flicking and rubbing against objects.

Thanks for the help and sorry it's taken me a few days to get back to the board. We've moved the Mollie to a seperate tank and have not fed her in a couple of days. I will give her some flakes tonight and get some peas, lettuce or the like tomorrow and see if that helps. She is still swimming upside down but still swimming strong and not rubbing her scales or anything like that. Just swimming sideways, upside down, etc. I'm not sure what else to do for her. Can I pick up some medicine at the store or something?

Thanks

Sorry I can't contribute, I don't know what the issue could be.

I would however like to add that white mollies, for whatever reason, seem to be prone to these things. Mine has troubles too. I've read of other people's white mollies doing things like this, but I can never get a good answer or solution that works. If you do find something please share!

Because your fish is swimming upsidedown, it sounds more like swim bladder though. If you're curious, here's a thread I made about my issues:
