Mollie/Platie has given birth

but i dont know which one! I have put about 9 of the fry into a breeding trap (whilst we prepair the smaller tank for the fry) 8 of the fry are grey in colour (like the mollie) but one is orange with black tipped fins

Im not sure if it is a mollie, or a platie .... our female mollies have only ever been with black/grey mollie men. The platie is orange, but surely there would be more than one if she had given birth...

How long untill i will be able to tell the difference?

It is likely both fish gave birth but the platys fry just got eaten more, molly fry will be bigger than platy fry.

Do they take long to grow?

Mollys will take up to a year+ to fully mature while platys about 6months+

okey doke, how long untill they are big enough to go with the other fish.

I was gunna put them in when they are about 1" big

Basically when the fry are bigger enough not to fit into other fish's mouths is when they're ready to be in the main tank.
Are you raising them in breeding nets or a fry tank? If you are using a breeding net the molly fry will outgrow it much sooner than the platy fry...

Provided none of your fish are 4" with pretty big mouths , that should be about right.

they are in the breeding trap atm on their own, i am going to move them into a smaller tank
