I have a male sailfin mollie and a female lyretail mollie. If (I guess when would be more appropriate) they mate, is it possible for them to have fry with both the sailfin and the lyretail? I guess it's a question of genetics and probabilty, but I was just curious.

I know there has been threads about hybrids and cross-breeding, but since these were both mollies, I was hoping that it was possible (no matter what the odds of the fry having both are).

WOOHOO! That is wonderful news! I have yet to see a sailfin lyretail, so I'm interested to see what they look like. This just adds yet another factor into what my fry will look like. It'll be like christmas waiting to see what colors they are and with what finnage. Thanks a lot JacopoFishy and Sakaspuds!

i dont know if you want to have those certain kind of mollies but i know at some fish stores you can buy pregant mollies i have one

1 pair of guppies

I would suggest researching both types and seeing what is the largest. Then from there, get a female of the larger and a male of the smaller.

If you want to chance it, divide the tank and do the reverse. Get a female of the smaller and a male of the larger.

Maybe one of the crosses will create a good looking fish.

pnyklr3 thats a good question, im in the same situation as you are! i want my two mollies (sail fin and Lyre tale) to breed and have fry. i hope they do.
