i don't know if this belongs in this section but i couldn't find a better place to ask.

basically i have a terrarium with humidity of around 100%. plants are doing fine as they're tropical species. the problem i'm having though is mold growth on the piece of wood in the tank. the first time i had yellow/green mold, so i boiled the whole piece for about an hour. when i put it back in, a couple days later and some white beard-like mold starts growing. so i boiled it again for another hour.

my question is, will the mold keep growing forever? if so what are some ways to kill it off completely? i'm thinking pesticides are a terrible idea a) because i have plants in there and b) because i might inhale it since the tank is in the house. also where do you think the mold is coming from? my soil is plantation soil that came in a dried and compressed brick so i doubt the mold could have survived being dried for such a long time.

i got the wood from a pet store. not sure what kind of wood it is but here's a picture of it in my tank.
