I had all of this riccia, which had floated away from the driftwood, at the top of my tank. As for the driftwood method, I would advice against thread. Clear fishing line is likely to be much more effective, and I'll fix that element during my next water change. At any rate, I had bought some plastic gutter guard to make a moss wall with, but my tank flourished so much there is little reason to use the moss wall of the back (probably won't really see it anyway).

So, today I bought some clear fishing line and a white nylon mesh bag that fisherman use. I sandwiched all of the riccia, as wide as a could but a little patchy, between two equal sized gutter guard mesh cutouts (rectangular). I then used plant weights/ties, to fasten the corners together. Then, I wrapped this 'riccia sandwich' in the white mesh bag material, twirling it at the bottom and tying it of with more plant ties. I laid it across an upper branch, a flat piece of driftwood, not tying it off to the wood at all. It is simply laying across, and I don't think anything in the tank can knock it off. Perhaps I should have used slate, but this is what I did. I wrapped up the whole thing with fishing line, tying that off carefullly as well. It is now laying on the flat arm of driftwood, and I have a few concerns as to how it will come out. I see that it will grow upwards easily, but what about the sides and corners of the mesh? Do you think it will grow to the sides, or can I simply expect it to grow up? My concern is that you will continue to see the black plastic and white nylon mesh, at least at the sides and corners. Any thoughts? Will riccia also grow sideways and downward to an extent?
