i was wondering if it would be possible to have both a semi-aggresive and aggressive tsnk(mix the two types together) or shoul di keep them seperate. also what is the rule or guide line about centimters of fish for gallons or whatever?

It all depends on the actual fish, how big your tank is, how easily is it divided into territories etc. Easier to answer that question if you mention actual species of fish.

As for the rule, it is 1 inch per gallon, BUT it only covers slimbodied fish (like guppies) and you ALSO have to take into account:

- territoriality (can't keep 2 male bettas together)
- need for swimming space (can't keep 3 danios in a 6 gallon tank)
- need to shoal (keeping 1 neon on its own would be unkind)
- heavy waste production (plecs are heavy crappers so need extra space)
- tendency to fin-nip (lemon tetras with bettas is a bad idea).
-sensitivity to poor water quality
