Yeh, very possible. It you use eco-complete it shouldn't cloud the water either.

Tropica plant substrate is a sandy colour that may be a better choice.

Its ok stuff. i have it mixed with literate and sand on top.

Depends what look you are going for, but yeah if most of the substrate is exposed, I guess it could look daft. Trouble is, sandy coloured substrates cloud the water like there is no tomorrow so adding them to an existing tank could be tricky. You'd not have this problem if you used EC, that what I was saying :)

Riiight.I get it.So i either go with a different coloured substrate just mix it all together sacrifice aesthetics for the fact i can grow plants, or i risk killing al the fish adding a sandy one.

Thanks for the help guys.

so dumb question, how do I go about adding the eco-complete to a tank that is already planted, fish, wood etc without stripping it down? or is a tank strip down in order?

Thanks
J

How woudl that happen?

Adding EC is probably the easiest of the lot because it doesn't need washing at all and it doesn't leach NH2 or NO2 into the water. To add just use a cup or mug to add it slowly and then mix into the substrate as necessary :)
